چکیده

Proper crack growth in the investigation of adhesive failure bonded wood joints requires laborious grain control. By adding auxiliary adherends, this paper introduces and evaluates a novel sample geometry that enables fracture energy characterization veneer-adhesive systems. The proposed method was applied to three species test commonly used adhesives. successfully identified differences energies associated with use different adhesives on same offered comparable success rate as control method. More importantly, for sawn planed veneers were without lathe checks common rotary-peeled veneers, even higher than rotary peeled indicating significance our adhesion. We further explored effects propagation both parallel perpendicular orientation designed wax strip specimens understand rising R-curve behavior observed certain species.

Mixed mode fracture testing of adhesively bonded wood specimens using a dual actuator load frame

An experimental evaluation of mixed mode fracture tests conducted on adhesively bonded wood specimens using a dual actuator load frame is presented. This unit allows the fracture mode mixity to be easily varied during testing of a given specimen, providing improved consistency, accuracy, and ease of testing over a range of loading modes. Double cantilever beam (DCB) type specimens made of south...

Fracture behaviour of adhesively bonded single lap joint with 45° ply oriented four layered symmetric and antisymmetric adherends

In aerospace and many types of civil infrastructure applications, the use of adhesive-bonded composite joints have been constantly increasing. In this study, fracture behaviour of adhesively bonded single lap joint (SLJ) with pre-existing damage at the interface of free edge of the top adherend and adhesive along the width of the joint is studied by strain energy release rate (SERR) approach us...

Disbond detection in adhesively bonded composite structures using vibration signatures

This paper presents a structural health monitoring technique based on analysis of the dynamic signature of the structure, which changes as damage occurs, due to alterations in structural properties such as stiffness and damping. Experiments performed on plate specimens and T-joint specimens which had various degrees of damage in the form of delaminations showed that it is possible to quantify t...

Rate Effects for Mixed-Mode Fracture of Plastically Deforming, Adhesively-Bonded Structures

Mixed-mode fracture of an adhesively-bonded structure made from a commercial adhesive and a dual-phase steel has been studied under different rates. Since mixedmode fracture occurs along the interface between the steel and adhesive, the cohesiveparameters for the interface were required. The mode-II interfacial properties were deduced in earlier work. In this paper the mode-I interfacial toughn...

Mode Ii Fracture Behavior of Bonded Viscoelastic Thermal Compressed Wood

The influence of viscoelastic thermal compression (VTC) of wood on bonding performance was studied. Mode-II (shear mode) fracture of the bonded interphase was performed using the overnotched and end-notched flexure methods. The study examined four groups of specimens; a control and VTC specimens with three different degrees of densification (63, 98, and 132%). The specimens were bonded with phe...
